Indonesia applies various information and telecommunication technologies as implemented in other countries. Issues of the information and telecommunication are briefly are illustrated as follows;
- Mobile Communication Service
For mobile communication, we currently adapt two kinds of networks, GSM and CDMA. GSM works on frequency of 900 MHz and 180) MHz. As for CDMA, the service works on frequency of 800 MHz and 1900 MHz. However, the 800 MHz is widely adapted. Both services have two kinds of tariffs, Pre-paid and Post-paid.
- Fixed Line Telephone Service
This service is widely implemented in offices, formal/informal institutions and houses. It runs by PT. Telekomunikasi Indonesia, a state-owned enterprise. However, public telephones are rarely to find in Indonesia since the growing of mobile phone communication and internet service.
- Internet Service
Internet service is now widely used by most people in Indonesia. It is supported by many providers, from line operator with ADSL connection type, mobile communication operators with GPRS, EDGE, 3G and HSDPA (3,5G) technology, to other operators with certain radio frequency connection. Choices made upon tariffs issues and qualities. Nowadays, for internet usage in public area, some places already have a free wifi internet access, such as in hotels or big department store. Poeple only need to sign up or register.
